With the playoffs quickly approaching, the Victoria Salmon Kings were looking to pile up some wins during their last home game series against the Idaho Steelheads last weekend.

The return to home ice is always a sigh of relief when a team is down and struggling on the road. Last Wednesday, March 11, the Victoria Salmon Kings finally returned home after a month-long road trip and used their home-crowd cheers to tear up the scoreboard and end a five-game losing streak.

The Oregon State Beavers paid UVic a visit last weekend as they traveled north of the border to take on the Vikes for the dual race rowing regatta.

From the countless grueling practices that have rowers out on the water before the sunrise, to the hours of mundane dry-land training, it all came together for the Vikes crews last weekend as they showed the visiting teams who owns Elk Lake.

Not since the age of the Vikings have we seen hundreds of participants rowing in sync towards a common goal. On Sunday, Feb. 1,  over 500 rowers descended upon Mckinnon gym to erg it out in the annual dry-land competition.

The Victoria Salmon Kings are currently on a 15-game winning streak and now hold the ECHL record for most consecutive wins in regulation.

As 2008 drew to a close, the Victoria Salmon Kings were looking to burst into the new year with the momentum of a near perfect December.

After coming off their dominant 2007-2008 season, the Salmon Kings will try to pick up where they left in their home opener this Friday, Oct. 24, at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.
