UVic students have voted for the UVic Students’ Society (UVSS) to sever ties with national lobby group the Canadian Federation of Students (CFS).

1,361 students voted “yes” to continued CFS membership; 3,255 students voted “no”.

UVSS censures pro-life club

Nearly four months after they hosted an event called “Echoes of the Holocaust” on campus, pro-life club Youth Protecting Youth (YPY) are seeing consequences. At their Feb. 7 meeting, the UVic Students’ Society (UVSS) voted to censure the club for violating the UVSS harassment policy in promoting the event.

Every December, UVic hosts a memorial to commemorate the 14 women who were killed at l’École Polytechnique in Montreal on Dec. 6, 1989. This year’s ceremony will be unique, however, as UVic unveils a plaque commemorating these deaths and invoking a better future for women on campus and in our communities.
