Hey Ocean washes into Victoria

Hey Victoria, Hey Ocean is in town. This up-and-coming Canadian band has been making waves over the last three years with their enthralling funk/pop fusion.
Bandmates Ashleigh Ball, David Beckingham and Dave Vertesi draw the attention of audiences everywhere with their quirky on-stage dynamic and fun, thoughtful lyrics.
In the midst of an international tour they are making a stop here at Element Nightclub on Tues, Sept. 15.
One of the acts setting the mood for Hey Ocean is the upbeat, electro-pop group Top Less Gay Love Tekno Party, whose self-proclaimed reputation for sounding like Dolce and Gabbana and Gucci having sex is one that this writer and fashion lover would like to see if they can live up to.
The second opener is local newbies and favourites Mindil Beach Markets. The group has just come back from a West Coast tour and will be putting on a funk/reggae/rock blend that will liven up the crowd and leave their memorable mark just before Hey Ocean sets the stage — the group will also be making a live appearance at UVic’s SUB party on Sat, Oct. 3.
This coming week, leave your Monday night 90s attire at home and skip Lucky — just this once. Put your first week assignments and chapters down and give yourself a well, undeserved break.
The event begins at 9 p.m., so put your drinking hats on early and make it for all three acts.
