Ohl joins Vikes as assistant
Former Vikes star and four-time CIS Champion Phil Ohl has been brought on as an Scouting and Recruitment Co-ordinator for the UVic men’s basketball team.
“He has a great eye for the game, and his numerous connections with the local community will help us a great deal,” head coach Craig Beaucamp said.
Ohl played for the Vikes from 1981-1985, where he was on four championships. In the ‘84-‘85 season, he was named MVP of the CIS Championship, as the lead the Vikes to their sixth-straight national championship.
Though Ohl will be mostly dedicating his time to advance scouting and recruiting, he has coaching experience at Camosun College and Parkland Secondary School.
He holds a Masters in Education from UVic.
“It was a neat fit for me, given my connection with the local basketball community, and I’m really happy to re-establish a connection with the Vikes,” Ohl said.
After a series of games against community colleges in Washington State over the break, the men’s team resumes play with two games at Mackinnon Gym: Jan. 8 against Brandon, and Jan. 9 against Regina.
