Spicing up snack time
These apple chips are a great snack for nights in or cram sessions — and they’re much healthier than their classic potato counterparts.
They also offer the perfect spicy-sweet combination to add flavour to your plain morning oatmeal or vegan yogurt. If you don’t have a fancy slicing tool, then a sharp knife will do. No dehydrator? No need! This recipe uses the oven. Feel free to try different spices, such as nutmeg or allspice.
Apple Chips
2 apples (any variety will do)
30 ml (2 tbsp) dry sweetener (optional)
15 ml (1 tbsp) ground cinnamon
parchment paper
Preheat oven to 225 C.
Mix cinnamon and sugar together. Slice apples into thin segments. Try coring the apple first and slicing the apple into doughnut-shaped circles.
Lay apple slices on one or two baking sheets lined with parchment paper, making sure the slices don’t overlap. Sprinkle cinnamon mixture over them.
Place the baking sheet(s) in the oven for 1 hour. Turn the apple pieces over, sprinkle with cinnamon mixture and place in the oven for another hour. They should be crispy when done.
