Hummous is one of the best items any vegan can have in their meat-free toolbox. Because they don’t eat dairy products or meat, vegans can have difficulty getting enough protein in their diet. Combining grains and legumes can be a good source of protein. This hummous can be made with a whole grain to ensure for maximum protein intake.

Fresh mint hummous -

1 19 oz can of chickpeas
1/4 cup of the liquid from the chickpeas (keep from can)
30 ml (2 tbsp) tahini
(1/3 cup) of fresh mint (this recipe uses apple mint)
5 ml (1 tsp) salt
5 ml (1 tsp) cumin
5 ml (1 tsp) ground ginger
5 ml (1 tsp) tumeric
1/2 tsp ground pepper
3 cloves garlic, chopped or squished through a garlic press
45 ml (3 tbsp) olive oil
juice and zest of one lemon

In a food processor, combine all ingredients and blend until smooth.

Serve with pita or bread as a healthy snack and store in the fridge.

Looks like a lovely recipe, but vegans, I'm glad to say, have no difficulty whatsoever in getting sufficient protein on a diet with no animal products (The American Dietetic Association has declared that well planned - this only means what it means everywhere - vegan diets are safe and healthy from cradle to grave). The protein combonation idea has also passed into history, so no worries about going vegan! I'm looking forward to the minty hummous!
