Canada West tournament challenges Vikes

The final Canada West tournament was held at UVic this weekend and proved to be a competitive and challenging one for the Vikes.

Boston Red Sox take on curse

As of press time, the Boston Red Sox lead the St. Louis Cardinals three games to none. In game one Saturday night, David Bellhorn’s two run home run was the difference in Boston’s 11–9 victory. On Sunday, the Red Sox got a solid and courageous outing by Curt Schilling, winning 6–2. And on Tuesday, Boston snagged a 4–1 win.

Maddaloni returns to Victoria

Being a Canadian soccer fan is painful. With last Wednesday’s 3–1 defeat to Costa Rica, the national men’s team failed to qualify for the 2006 World Cup. This comes as no surprise, as it is ranked 95th in the world. In fact, the only time Canada qualified for the men’s World Cup was in 1986 and ended up losing all three matches in the tournament.

The history of beer-pong

The story of this serendipitous evolution of sport took place in the summer of 2004, a few miles over the Canadian border in the small town of Boundary Bay. It was here that a mixture of drinking Coors Original and playing table tennis, two of my favourite pastimes, took on a wonderful new twist.

Rowers dazzle Victoria

Today I watched a UVic men’s rower wake up at 6:30 a.m. to go to the Ian Stewart Complex and physically exert himself until he vomited.

Vikes men’s b-ball shoot down University College of the Caribo

The UVic men’s basketball team won its first home exhibition game of the year Friday, with an easy 90–65 triumph over the University College of the Cariboo (UCC) Sun Demons. The Vikes sunk the first basket and then never fell behind.
