On August 6, members of the media were invited for a sneak peek at UVic’s Centre for Athletics, Recreation and Special Abilities (CARSA), scheduled to open early next year. Click on any image to view a slideshow.
Clint Hamilton, UVic’s director of athletics and recreation, points to the bouldering wall beside the front desk of CARSA. The climbing tower can be seen at Hamilton’s left.
The 16m climbing tower will be the tallest of its kind in Canada. According to project co-ordinator Nazir Jessa, the tower also serves as a fresh air intake for the building.
During the tour, Hamilton emphasized the open concept feel of the building.
The field house will contain an 80m sprint track (on the right), and both wood and synthetic flooring for different sports.

The electronic scoreboard and replay screen will be on the left. The gym is designed to accommodate two basketball courts with the bleacher seats retracted, and one court with the bleachers in place.
