Our team talked about the places we like to go to get away from our desks and clear our minds — here's some of our suggestions: -Lochside trail -Tofino (bit far but v relaxing) -East Sooke Park -Christmas Hill -little beaches and secret spots by Cadboro Bay/Arbutus Cove Take care of yourself, folks, and best of luck navigating this weird semester. 📸: A few weeks ago, some of our staff went on a socially distanced hike up PKOLS (Mount Doug).

At a rally outside the Ministry of Health on Sept. 25, @momsstoptheharm  pressed for decriminalization amid cars honking their support.  “We can’t incarcerate ourselves out of this crisis,” say Jennifer Howard, an advocate with MSTH who lost her son Robby in 2016 to a fentanyl overdose. Divine Mercy Ezeaku’s photography project, Mag Divine Mercy Ezeaku’s photography project, Magnificent Shades of Ebony was created for a class in the spring of 2020 by Ezeaku “to convey the beauty of Black people feeling comfortable in their skin.” Inspired by her personal experiences in Canada and Nigeria, Ezeaku uses photography to connect with people that have similar stories and depict the positive way she wants Black people to view themselves. TW: Sexualized violence In August, two survivors TW: Sexualized violence In August, two survivors — Sophie Brindle and Jenna North — shared sexual assault allegations against Peter Mirmotahari on Instagram. They received an overwhelming amount of support, and other survivors started following suit. But soon after, some posts were removed and an anonymous page dedicated to sharing their stories, Call Out Victoria, was abruptly deleted. Although the #MeToo movement and other survivors empowered these individuals with the courage to come forward, it didn’t give them a rulebook for reporting a sexual assault on social media. Our latest feature follows the journeys of three local survivors in trying to get justice, heal, and find solidarity.  Linked in our bio.

This is the Fairy Creek blockade: a non-violent civil disobedience action seeking a moratorium on the logging of old-growth forests in B.C., a transition to the logging of second-growth trees, and collaboration between logging companies and Indigenous nations on resource projects.
