Sisters support special sport
Dear Editor,
Victoria Special Olympics would like to extend a big thank you to members of Kappa Beta Gamma, Upsilon Chapter, UVic for their outstanding support this year. The sorority selected Special Olympics as its charity of choice and has given tremendous support to our organization and to the athletes.
Special Olympics is an athletic program for individuals with intellectual disabilities. The programs don’t just provide an opportunity to play sports — they help build self-esteem and confidence, social skills and friendships. Our programs would not exist without volunteers and financial donors.
Sorority members volunteered to help run a swim meet and a fitness test, and they will provide support for a number of upcoming events. Some of the sorority sisters volunteer for our teen basketball and soccer programs. They are developing a fundraiser for Special Olympics, have invited an athlete to speak at one of their meetings and show ongoing commitment to the organization.
The sisters of Kappa Beta Gamma join more than 200 Victoria Special Olympics volunteers and supporters, to whom we extend our continued appreciation.
On behalf of the athletes, coaches and volunteers at Victoria Special Olympics, we extend a heartfelt thank you to the members of Kappa Beta Gamma!
